LINKS BY GEORGE June 17th
LINKS BY GEORGE NEWSLETTER
JUNE 21, 2012
As in my previous editions, I feel I have covered a lot of parameters of interest including shamanic hope to the darker shadows of our social situations. For us to stay clear, I feel we need to look at all the possibilites even if we don't want to attach to all. Open systems of communication prevent fear, confusion or even being duped whether by angelic messiahs or smiling politicians. And at the same time, we can learn of positive directions for body, mind, emotion and soul.
Last week, I read a number of news stories and email comments from people feeling sympathy for a number of American soldiers who were killed in their participation in the invasion and ongoing domination of Afghanistan. During the same week we learned that
18 Afghani citizens who were slaughtered by our new weapons of mass destruction, the US drone strikes. No apologies from our State Department who considers such deaths as "colateral damage".
Perhaps to those who consider our permanent war machine as a video game, it doesn't mean much but to the mothers who have to hold the bloody remains of their children, it is another experience of our progress in bringing them democracy (and higher oil prices) Homeland security
committee chairman Peter King's reply was that he's "not concerned about the program's negative fallout, particularly civilian casualties adding that the US drone policy is one of "righteousness and goodness".
Would this lunatic as well as the others like him that go to church on Sunday's and profess to be good Christians ask "Who would Jesus kill first?" Similarly would Jesus advice the Wall Street bankster mob to "Rob the poor and give it all to the ultra-rich". Along with President Obama's anouncement of having "kill lists" to assasinate even American citizens without a trial means that we no longer even have the security of our Bill of Rights to protect us from the same government that is supposed to be protecting us instead. Scary times but also the need to be aware and active in promoting the return of sanity and compassion.
To live in denial that such darkness is spreading and hurting millions of people around the planet is in itself dark. Certainly any spiritual path that does not integrate compassion in such awareness and doing whatever we can to end the suffering of others is only a self serving agenda and
not one of love or light.
YOUR DONATION OF ANY SIZE HELPS, IS NEEDED AND VERY APPRECIATED
Aloha from an off grid rain forest cabin in Hawaii. For the past 7 years
I have lived in several places around the world and have been sending
my "links by george" newsletter, blog and facebook postings which I describe
as "an eclectic list of links of articles, music and quotes relating to alternative
lifestyles, culture, shamanism, spirituality, politics, conspiracies, art images
and environmental issues". I arrange the format so as to flow from one story
to another as well as have the option to find out more details on any particular story.
I am committed to networking these articles and stay many hours a day
researching. Our financial situation is very challenging as it is and thecost
to keep the internet services also is a problem each month. I would like
to thank the friends that have sent in donations to the service I provide.
I am not asking for anyone to feel that they have to donate.
My service is from the heart and it is a pleasure for me to outreach
to as many people as possible. Many people write me back
that they have benefited from the articles and thus the information
provides a service. However, if anyone can send even a small donation
to me through pay pal or otherwise, my family and I
would be very very appreciative. In any case, the 'links by George" will go on.
We have a PAY PAL account where you can send a contribution through your credit card.

I am considering ignorance here from the point of view of a westerner. We live in the global village, we share the same roof, we are interdependent and co-responsible for care of the Earth. QUOTES FOR THE WEEK:
"Washington...has become an alien city-state that rules America, and much of the rest of the world, in the way that Rome ruled the Roman Empire." - Richard Maybury
"Make wars unprofitable and you make them impossible." - A. Philip Randolph
"It is always easier to fight for one's principles than to live up to them." - Alfred Adler
"To some degree it matters who's in office, but it matters more how much pressure they're under from the public." - Noam Chomsky
" An empire founded by war has to maintain itself by war." - Charles de Montesquieu
"In the eyes of empire builders men are not men but instruments" - Napoleon Bonaparte
"The government, which was designed for the people, has got into the hands of the bosses and their employers, the special interests. An invisible empire has been set up above the forms of democracy." - Woodrow T. Wilson
"Basically, what Economic Hit Men are trained to do is to build up the American empire. To create situations where as many resources as possible flow into this country, to our corporations, and our government, and in fact we've been very successful." - John Perkins
"The great lie is that it is civilization. It's not civilized. It has been literally the most blood thirsty brutalizing system ever imposed upon this planet. That is not civilization. That's the great lie, is that it represents civilization." - John Trudell - http://is.gd/Le7XO0
"When you get down with Obama, however grudgingly or reluctantly, you are dancing on the killing floor" - Chris Floyd
"A country without a memory is a country of madmen." - George Santayana
"The terrible, cold, cruel part is Wall Street. Rivers of gold flow there from all over the earth, and death comes with it. There, as nowhere else, you feel a total absence of the spirit: herds of men who cannot count past three, herds more who cannot get past six, scorn for pure science and demoniacal respect for the present. And the terrible thing is that the crowd that fills the street believes that the world will always be the same and that it is their duty to keep that huge machine running, day and night, forever." - Federico Garcia Lorca - Spanish Poet and Playwright - 1898-1936
". . . in America, we have achieved the Orwellian prediction - enslaved, the people have been programmed to love their bondage and are left to clutch only mirage-like images of freedom, its fables and fictions. The new slaves are linked together by vast electronic chains of television that imprison not their bodies but their minds. Their desires are programmed, their tastes manipulated, their values set for them. " Gerry Spence, From Freedom to Slavery.
"Around the world, the message received is that, whoever wins [the U.S. election], expect only more of the same - national narcissism disguised as altruism, corporate appeasement, and the arbitrary use of U.S. military and economic might." - Greg Guma - Toward Freedom magazine
"It should be no surprise that when rich men take control of the government, they pass laws that are favorable to themselves. The surprise is that those who are not rich vote for such people, even though they should know from bitter experience that the rich will continue to rip off the rest of us." Andrew Greeley (Chicago Sun-Times, February 18, 2001)
"We Americans claim to be a peace-loving people. We hate bloodshed; we are opposed to violence. Yet we go into spasms of joy over the possibility of projecting dynamite bombs from flying machines upon helpless citizens. We are ready to hang, electrocute, or lynch anyone, who, from economic necessity, will risk his own life in the attempt upon that of some industrial magnate. Yet our hearts swell with pride at the thought that America is becoming the most powerful nation on earth, and that she will eventually plant her iron foot on the necks of all other nations. Such is the logic of patriotism." - Emma Goldman.
"Strike against war, for without you no battles can be fought! Strike against manufacturing shrapnel and gas bombs and all other tools of murder! Strike against preparedness that means death and misery to millions of human beings! Be not dumb, obedient slaves in an army of destruction! Be heroes in an army of construction!" - Helen Keller
