LINKS BY GEORGE JAN. 31st

Check out my updated blog images towards the bottom at
http://linksbygeorge.blogspot.com

My newest image presentations are from Symeon Nostrakis, Josie Hyde
and the Ayahuasca visions of Clementino Almeido De Lima

I'm devoting many hours a day to keep the stories current.
If anyone would like to make a donation for the internet service,
it would be very appreciated. Even very small amounts would help.
We have a paypal contact at gsrain@yahoo.com

Aloha I invite you to check out my updated blog images in the new art images
on the "top part of the bottom" picture icons. . There is new art again from
various artists. The blog this week (as does the newsletter) has many articles
on Wikileaks as well as stories on psychedelics, spirituality, environmental,
economy, health, political, conspiracies, quotes and updated music news.
Also lots of extra music videos that I think you will enjoy on the arts section.

SCOTT HUCKABAY is about to land on Maui and then Big Island for a few weeks.
I feel he is one of the best musicians on the planet and I encourage you to go see and experience his musical alchemy if you can.
I have added a few of his musical performances on youtubes below as well.

Of course not every article or detail is interesting to everyone, so I suggest one way
to approach this digest is to skim the headlines and then go back to open the ones most personally interesting. My aim is to arrange them in a way that has a thematic
flow (similar to how I would arrange the songs I would play in my radio show.
Also somewhat confusing might be the difference between the newsletter
and the blog. The newsletter has all the articles and does not require fast speed
internet to look at. The blog has the same stories but also the art images and
thus takes faster internet service to open. The same article headlines appear
as on the newsletter and open when you click on them.
http://linksbygeorge.blogspot.com

Besides the hundreds of new stories that I review daily, more and more music videos
are being forwarded to me by friends and groups. It's a tough choice which ones to
edit down to the newsletter format, and as many of these take up too much time
to download, I have added a new section after ARTS which I am calling
MUSIC VIDEOS.
If you find interest in my adding music links like these in future mailings,
please let me know.

Many of the newsletters are getting incorrectly marked as spam. Please add my email address into your email address book if you notice this problem. Because of the growing volume of the links by george, please add all three of my addresses that I am sending from: gsrain@gmail.com gsrain2@gmail.com and gsrain@yahoo.com

Mike Whitney: Barack Obama - As Bad as Bush
His enemies call him a tyrant and a dictator, but he is neither.
Hugo Chavez is a tireless champion of the poor and a committed
Christian socialist. The only difference between Chavez's type of
Christianity and Barack Obama's, is that Chavez walks the walk.
For example, on Tuesday, Chavez used his powers under the new
"enabling laws" to enact the "Law for Dignified Refuge" a presidential
decree that mandates "dignified and humane" housing for all Venezuelans.
The Venezuelan parliament approved the controversial (and temporary)
enabling laws because the country faced an unprecedented housing
crisis due to the massive floods in December.
More than 125,000 people lost their homes in the disaster requiring
a speedy response from the government. Chavez swung into action
immediately turning the presidential palace into a homeless shelter
and initiating a campaign to construct permanent housing for the victims.
Now he has pushed through landmark legislation that will legally require
the government to help the homeless.

QUOTES FOR THE WEEK:

"This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. . . . We pay for a single fighter with a half-million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people. . . . This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron." - President Dwight Eisenhower The "Chance For Peace" speech April 16, 1953
---
"The great initiative in this war is ours. The initiative to end it must be ours." - --Martin Luther King, Jr., speaking of Vietnam.
---
"I speak as a citizen of the world, for the world as it stands aghast at the path we have taken. I speak as one who loves America, to the leaders of our own nation: The great initiative in this war is ours; the initiative to stop it must be ours." -Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
---
We have to condemn publicly the very idea that some people have the right to repress others. In keeping silent about evil, in burying it so deep within us that no sign of it appears on the surface, we are implanting it, and it will rise up a thousandfold in the future. When we neither punish nor reproach evildoers ... we are ripping the foundations of justice from beneath new generations." - Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
---
"Our memory is struggling to rescue the truth that human rights were not handed down as privileges from a parliament, or a boardroom, or an institution, but that peace is only possible with justice and with information that gives us the power to act justly." - John Pilger
--
"Never forget that justice is what love looks like in public!" - Cornell West
--
"I'd rather have the devil running my country than the screwbally bunch we got in most of our offices these days." -- Woody Guthrie - in a letter - June 6, 1948
---
"The strength of a civilization is not measured by its ability to fight wars, but rather by its ability to prevent them." Gene Roddenberry
---

"[War] is legalized mass murder, it is rightly relegated to the measure of last resort by civilized people the world over. Thus the majority of the civilized world was horrified when the United States launched a preemptive war on Iraq without the authorization of the United Nations." Thom Hartmann
----
"Civilization can only revive when there shall come into being in a number of individuals a new tone of mind, independent of the prevalent one among the crowds, and in opposition to it -- a tone of mind which will gradually win influence over the collective one, and in the end determine its character. Only an ethical movement can rescue us from barbarism, and the ethical comes into existence only in individuals. - Albert Schweitzer
----
"Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm. But the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it. Because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves." - T. S. Eliot
----
"A man must first of all understand certain things. He has thousands of false ideas and false conceptions, chiefly about himself, and he must get rid of some of them before beginning to acquire anything new. Otherwise the new will be built on a wrong foundation and the result will be worse than before. To speak the truth is the most difficult thing in the world; one must study a great deal and for a long time in order to speak the truth. The wish alone is not enough. To speak the truth one must know what the truth is and what a lie is, and first of all in oneself. And this nobody wants to know." - G.I. Gurdjieff

"Terrorism is the best political weapon for nothing drives people harder than a fear of sudden death." -- Adolf Hitler

"Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear." -- Harry S. Truman - (1884-1972), 33rd US President

"And our security will require all Americans to be forward-looking and resolute, to be ready for pre-emptive action." -- George W. Bush - (1946- ) 43rd US President

"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear." Ambrose Redmoon
