This week is my 60th birthday and if you happen to be on the Big Island later in the month, Stephanie and I invite you to join us in celebrating our birthdays together on August 27.
Back and forward again into the 60's. Two excellent bands, Terrapin Station and The Love Machine, will keep us dancing to the sounds of Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd.
It will definitely be a fun and fine evening experience.

Lots of stories this week in the blog ranging from ideas on the national debt arrangement, the Ken Kesey movie, drug legalization and oppression, plight of the Huichol Indians, shamanism, sustainability, cancer therapy, 9/11 info, chemtrails, music videos and much more. I try to weave the way the articles are presented so as to provide almost a "headline dialog" so that you can find it easier to browse with context and reference points. For more information on a particular story, the link can be clicked for the details and article.

Also some beautiful art added by one of my favorite artists MATI KLARWEIN and also another wonderful artist JUDY HURLEY.
Check out my updated blog images towards the bottom.

As many of you know, I have been sending out this newsletter for over 7 years. I am committed to networking these articles and stay many hours a day researching. Our financial situation is very challenging as it is and the cost to keep the internet services also is a problem each month. I would like to thank the friends that have sent in donations to the service I provide. I am not asking for anyone to feel that they have to donate. My service is from the heart and it is a pleasure for me to outreach to as many people as possible. Many people write me back that they have benefited from the articles and thus the information provides a service. However, if anyone can send even a small donation to me through Paypal or otherwise, my family and I would be very very appreciative.
In any case, the 'links by george" will go on.
We have a Paypal contact at

The President Surrenders
By Paul Krugman
For the deal itself, will take America a long way down the road
to banana-republic status.

Robert Reich | Ransom Paid Robert Reich, Robert Reich's Blog:
"Anyone who characterizes the deal between the President, Democratic, and Republican leaders as a victory for the American people over partisanship understands neither economics nor politics. The deal does not raise taxes on America's wealthy and most fortunate - who are now taking home a larger share of total income and wealth, and whose tax rates are already lower than they have been, in eighty years."

What Senator Robert Kennedy said in 1966, speaking on the medical value of psychedelics, holds even more true today:

“I think we have given too much emphasis and so much attention to the fact that it can be dangerous and that it can hurt an individual who uses it…that perhaps to some extent we have lost sight of the fact that it can be very, very helpful in our society, if used properly.”

"Nothing appears more surprising to those who consider human affairs with a philosophical eye than the easiness with which the many are governed by the few, and the implicit submission with which men resign their own sentiments and passions to those of their rulers." David Hume, Scottish philosopher and historian, "Of the First Principles of Government" 1758

""How fortunate for leaders that men do not think." Adolf Hitler

"The great are only great because we are on our knees." James Connolly - Irish republican and socialist leader. Executed by a British firing squad because of his leadership role in the Easter Rising of 1916.

"The study of money, above all other fields in economics, is one in which complexity is used to disguise truth or to evade truth, not to reveal it. The process by which banks create money is so simple the mind is repelled." John Kenneth Galbraith

"Civil disobedience is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is the numbers of people all over the world who have obeyed the dictates of the leaders of their government and have gone to war, and millions have been killed because of this obedience ... Our problem is that people are obedient all over the world in the face of poverty and starvation and stupidity, and war, and cruelty. Our problem is that people are obedient while the jails are full of petty thieves ... [and] the grand thieves are running the country. That's our problem." - Howard Zinn

"Societies characterized by enduring deep divisions of income and wealth, such as most third-world societies, are wounded societies with little sense of the common good... As America drifts in this direction, ending poverty and redistributing income should be at the top of the national agenda."-- Charles Derber, Corporation Nation, p203..

"This focus on money and power may do wonders in the marketplace, but it creates a tremendous crisis in our society. People who have spent all day learning how to sell themselves and to manipulate others are in no position to form lasting friendships or intimate relationships... Many Americans hunger for a different kind of society -- one based on principles of caring, ethical and spiritual sensitivity, and communal solidarity. Their need for meaning is just as intense as their need for economic security."-- Michael Lerner, journalist

"There comes a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part, you can't even passively take part; and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop, And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, the people who own it, that unless you're free the machine will be prevented from working at all." Mario Savio (1964)

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. government can't pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our government's reckless fiscal policies. ... Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that 'the buck stops here.' " --
Barack Hussein Obama 44th President of the United States - Source: 20 March 2006, prior to voting against a debt ceiling increase in the Senate

" If there was ever a time in the modern history of America that the American people should become engaged in what's going on here in Washington, now is that time."
Bernie Sanders: July, 2011 - The longest serving independent member of Congress in American history.

"Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.
-Martin Luther King, Jr.

Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived. Dalai Lama

Ok everybody, it's July 27 and what could be a more fitting tribute than to say goodbye to Amy Winehouse while we look back at all the other artists that left this world at the much too young age of twenty seven...Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones, Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson of Canned Heat, Pete Ham of Badfinger and blues legend Robert Johnson.

Using rare and unseen photos and footage (including unreleased Beatles footage), Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese traces the life of George Harrison. Coming this Fall.
To coincide with the release of the film, in late September, Abrams Books will publish Olivia Harrison's George Harrison: Living in the Material World, a personal archive of photographs, letters, diaries and memorabilia from George's life.
