LINKS BY GEORGE NEWSLETTER~ AUGUST 1st

There is an old saying "tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are." Of course, like most such sayings, there are always other sides as well. But in having to go through so many internet stories daily, I am getting tired of seeing the positive portrayal of the man who would be president Mitt Romney. This year's election is pretty much a farce anyways as having to chose between two wrongs might not necessarily make a right. Obama with his assassination lists, war on medicinal pot and supporting more invasions of other countries is not a saint. Yet when it comes to Romney, not only is he as toxic as Obama on these issues, but he goes even further. His latest attacks on marijuana being the reason society has fallen apart and his new drug war crusade plans are frightening. This week we learn not only has he avoided paying income tax for over 10 years, but also he has millions of dollars stashed in an offshore bank account that he hides from public scrutiny like a thief in the night. For many of us, this comes as no surprise but when we see major media news servers purposely ignoring following up these stories, the impression I get is that they are all a bunch of crooks and can never be trusted for honest journalism. As the saying implies, who they look up to represents how they too are hiding truth from the public eye.
Every day I wake up and ask myself if it is necessary to send out so many stories that are of an upsetting, shocking and frustrating nature.
Wouldn't it be better to just post photos of happy people and nature scenes instead like so many other people do? Yet at the same time, my heart feels the pain of the planet and its people, and to turn my back or give a blind eye to what's going on would be selfish and in a sense accepting all this madness as justified. Through all my newsletters I search for stories of higher consciousness and of solutions to the problems that greed and ignorance are inflicting. Maybe by continuing to share information we can illuminate a higher purpose and more compassionate lifestyle. Is there another choice? Please, keep forwarding articles you find important to do so. Also, feel free to forward me any articles of interest that I might be able to send out in a future newsletter.
A few donations have filtered in again and for at least a few more issues,
the "Links by George" continues.

YOUR DONATION OF ANY SIZE HELPS, IS NEEDED
AND VERY APPRECIATED

I am committed to networking these articles and stay many hours a day researching. Our financial situation is very challenging as it is and the cost to keep the internet services also is a problem each month. I would like to thank the friends that have sent in donations to the service I provide.
I am not asking for anyone to feel that they have to donate. My service is from the heart and it is a pleasure for me to outreach to as many people as possible. Many people write me back that they have benefited from the articles and thus the information provides a service. However, if anyone can send even a small donation
to me through pay pal or otherwise, my family and I would be very very appreciative.
In any case, the 'links by George" will go on. Please feel free to forward this newsletter as well as my facebook messages as networking information is a vital tool of awareness. I would be happy to add other interested people to my mailing list as well.

We have a PAY PAL account where you can send a contribution through your credit card. See the PayPal icon to the right of this page.
We also have an account with DWOLLA which allows you
to send a donation from a bank account without need of using a credit card
If you prefer to send a check or money order, our address is:

QUOTES FOR THE WEEK:

"Around the world, the message received is that, whoever wins [the U.S. election], expect only more of the same - national narcissism disguised as altruism, corporate appeasement, and the arbitrary use of U.S. military and economic might." - Greg Guma - Toward Freedom magazine

"With each newly minted crisis, US leaders roll out the same time-tested scenario. They start demonizing a foreign leader ... charging them with being communistic or otherwise dictatorial, dangerously aggressive, power hungry, genocidal, given to terrorism or drug trafficking, ready to deny us access to vital resources, harboring weapons of mass destruction, or just inexplicably "anti-American" and "anti-West." Lacking any information to the contrary, the frightened public ... are swept along." - Michael Parenti

"The first step in a fascist movement is the combination under an energetic leader of a number of men who possess more than the average share of leisure, brutality, and stupidity. The next step is to fascinate fools and muzzle the intelligent, by emotional excitement on the one hand and terrorism on the other." Bertrand Russell Freedom, Harcourt Brace, 1940

"The two greatest obstacles to democracy in the United States are, first, the widespread delusion among the poor that we have a democracy, and second, the chronic terror among the rich, lest we get it." Edward Dowling

"It is in the nature of imperialism that citizens of the imperial power are always among the last to know--or care--about circumstances in the colonies." Bertrand Russell

"Freethinkers are those who are willing to use their minds without prejudice and without fearing to understand things that clash with their customs, privileges, or beliefs. This state of mind is not common, but it is essential for right thinking; where it is absent, discussion is apt to become worse than useless." -- Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoi - (1828-1910) Russian writer Source: On Life and Essays on Religion

"Free inquiry requires that we tolerate diversity of opinion and that we respect the right of individuals to express their beliefs, however unpopular they may be, without social or legal prohibition or fear of success." -- Paul Kurtz : "A Secular Humanist Declaration," in On The Barricades, 1989

"This is, in theory, still a free country, but our politically correct, censorious times are such that many of us tremble to give vent to perfectly acceptable views for fear of condemnation. Freedom of speech is thereby imperiled, big questions go undebated, and great lies become accepted, unequivocally as great truths." -- Simon Heffer Daily Mail, 7 June 2000
