LINKS BY GEORGE ~ AUGUST 26TH

LINKS BY GEORGE NEWSLETTER
AUGUST 26TH 2012

It's an especially large newsletter this week, but rather than think
of it as challenging, it's at least some stories of interest for everyone.
Recently I was asked for my opinions by my friend Tony who
is lead guitarist for a fantastic group called Love Machine as
to the difference of what sort of music is listened to today by
most kids and its similarity or difference to the music of the
late 60's. Here are parts of my conversation.
During the golden time period of late 60's and into the 70's,
a wonderful crack occurred in the mainstream matrix and it felt
as if the heavens opened and the angels and muses graced
us with the sounds of transcendence, freedom, healing and happiness.
Musicians were the shamans or at least conduits and channels
in the experience. The vested interests were shaken as they were not
prepared for such a lifting of the veils. Psychedelics were a key as
was the baby boom feeling that we could change much. But the
empire struck back. Radio stations were bought by conglomerates
and ended the support which, even though was pop and trendy, the
flow was still reaching the masses. Advertising promoted other stuff
which was insipid in all ways including meaning, art or spirit. Embalming
fluid for the sheeple. It no longer looks possible for a class or
large group revolution of the arts. As with all such counterculture
movements, it will only happen for individuals seeking a higher path
or for small neighborhoods of like minded folks under the radar.
For me it leaves a tear of sadness and anger in my soul when
I see so many young "hippies" listening to so called trance or
hip hop heart music which is dribble and empty calories.
Hendrix, Beatles, Pink Floyd, Traffic, Miles Davis, and thousands
of other known or more eclectic musical groups left maps of
consciousness which can at least still be accessed by seekers
of spiritual nutrition. Like Hesse's magic theater in Steppenwolf,
the magic theater is not for everyone. During the 60's and 70's
music looked like it was paving the way from everyone. Such is
the irony and paradox as now that we need truth more than ever,
people are not triggering to music for the transformative potential
and holistic pleasure it can bring.
I don't want in any way to generalize as, in every generation,
there are individuals and even small gatherings of clear eye
and soul people. Even in ancient times and tribal societies, simply
beating a drum or singing transported individuals to high, healthy
consciousness. Intention not glamor or ego have quite an influence in
the process, that are sharing love and also in tune to not following
the pack of fashion. But so many of the kids that try to look like
some vestige of counter culturists are more in line of drain-bows
instead of rainbows and who they follow show-men instead
of shamen. Let the blind lead the blind and the fools invest in a
lost future of nonsense. Trampled under foot by media and glamor
guides. Not wanting to be attached to their loss, I have better use for
my time such as enjoying nature or music that has meaning,
depth and is real instead of a coca cola machine next to an
amplifier with some idiot called a dj with a fancy name and
piercings playing so called trancetrash. As Woody Harelson
once said in the movie White Men can't Dunk,
"are you listening to Jimi or hearing Jimi?"
But then again if what is happening today is basically a
contemporary mating rite, then it might have validity as such.
And as everyone is a free individual to chose the path they desire,
"whatever works."
I would be happy to listen to old time spirituals, or even cave men
drumming in a cave than the stuff we are talking about being mass
marketed. Like gmo non food, its gmo non music. Frequencies that
have been analyzed for limiting creativity, spirituality and health are
being pushed on the masses as one more step towards an embalmed
populace of the new world order.
During the late 60's and early 70's, music was experimenting with
eclectic sounds and freedom of expression. There was also a merger
of rock, blues and folk. Social issues such as racism, poverty, the
Vietnam war, environmental desecration and spiritual pathways
were all being sung about and the message clearly defined. Today
besides the militaristPost Optionsic sounds of much of techno and the
aggressive self adulation tone of popularized hip hop, the new age
mantras of love seem to frequently regress to appointing each other
as gods.goddesses and the crowning audacity to say we are the ones
we have been waiting for. It's wonderful to be aware of such archetypes
and influences but we need to also be aware that besides the organic food
we grow there are children on the other side of the world starving and
having their families blown up by drones that denialists are saying
not to be aware of. Why don't "heart songs" talk about the suffering
caused by the greed and war mentality of the power brokers as well?
Aloha from an off grid rain forest cabin in Hawaii. For the past 7 years
I have lived in several places around the world and have been sending
my "Links by George" newsletter, blog and Facebook postings which
I describe as "an eclectic list of links of articles, music and quotes
relating to alternative lifestyles, culture, shamanism, spirituality,
politics, conspiracies, art images and environmental issues".
I arrange the format so as to flow from one story to another as
well as have the option to find out more details on any particular story.
YOUR DONATION OF ANY SIZE HELPS, IS NEEDED
AND VERY APPRECIATED

I am committed to networking these articles and stay many hours a day
researching. Our financial situation is very challenging as it is and the cost
to keep the internet services also is a problem each month. I would like
to thank the friends that have sent in donations to the service I provide.
I am not asking for anyone to feel that they have to donate.
My service is from the heart and it is a pleasure for me to outreach
to as many people as possible. Many people write me back
that they have benefited from the articles and thus the information
provides a service. However, if anyone can send even a small donation
to me through pay pal or otherwise, my family and I
would be very very appreciative.
In any case, the 'links by George" will go on. Please feel free to forward this newsletter as well as my Facebook messages as networking information is a vital tool of awareness. I would be happy to add other interested people to my mailing list as well.

We have a PAY PAL account where you can send a contribution
through your credit card.
We also have an account with DWOLLA which allows you
to send a donation
from a bank account without need of using a credit card

If you prefer to send a check or money order, our address is:

GENERAL INFO:

Latest news from issues and alibis. Thank you Ernest for another excellent presentation

Julian Assange August 19th 2012 Speech Outside the Ecuadorian Embassy

Michael Moore, Oliver Stone | WikiLeaks and Free Speech. "Mr. Assange is not an American citizen, and none of his actions have taken place on American soil. If the United States can prosecute a journalist in these circumstances, the governments of Russia or China could, by the same logic, demand that foreign reporters anywhere on earth be extradited for violating their laws. The setting of such a precedent should deeply concern everyone, admirers of WikiLeaks or not."

The bizarre, unhealthy, blinding media contempt for Julian Assange. There are several obvious reasons why Assange provokes such unhinged media contempt. The most obvious among them is competition: the resentment generated by watching someone outside their profession generate more critical scoops in a year than all other media outlets combined. Professional and ego-based competition produces personal hatred like nothing else can

As Woody Turns 100, We Protest Too Little. Downes writes: "Poor Woody. The life and music of America's great hobo prophet, its Dust Bowl balladeer, boiled down to this: He brought attention to the critical issues of his day."

8 Attacks at Houses of Worship in 11 Days -- What's Going On? There's a crime wave targeting houses of worship, most of them Muslim. Is something sinister at work?

Creeping Counterterrorism: From Muslims to Political Protesters. "Our shortsighted forfeiture of civil liberties based on fears of the 'Muslim other' now equips our government to quash political dissent.... When we allow governments to forfeit our civil rights to protect 'us' from 'them,' we lose sight of how quickly we can become the 'them.'"

The America That Once Championed Human Rights, Freedom And Democracy Is No More. America has done an excellent job of portraying itself as the bastion of human rights, freedom and democracy. However, there is only one problem with that wondrous self-assessment; it is simply not the case as it has become very evident that, based on this nation's hubristic actions around the world and it continued repressive actions domestically, it has forfeited the right to that distinction.

Mother Threatened With Fines For Feeding Hungry Children. Angela Prattis, a 41 year old Pennsylvania mother of four, took it upon herself to help the disadvantaged children in her neighborhood. Councilman William Kennard showed up at the neighborhood civic association meeting, telling them that Prattis’ free lunch program was unlawful. At the town council meeting held on August 2, 2012, the elected officials voted to levy a $600.00 a day fine for each day Angela Prattis fed the children

America's Descent into Poverty. The Clinton sell-outs to Big Money essentially abolished Aid to Families with Dependent Children. Greg Muttitt, Whatever Happened to Iraqi Oil? In 2011, after nearly nine years of war and occupation, U.S. troops finally left Iraq. In their place, Big Oil is now present in force and the country’s oil output, crippled for decades, is growing again. Iraq recently reclaimed the number two position in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), overtaking oil-sanctioned Iran. Now, there’s talk of a new world petroleum glut. So is this finally mission accomplished?

Romney’s energy plan dissected: Putting government to work for Big Oil. "Empower states to control onshore energy development" In short, Romney wants states to have the ability to open federal land within their borders to extraction and to have full control over the permitting process. The feds would then rubber-stamp the state plans. It’s basically the Tenth Amendment, applied to oil drilling.
"Open offshore areas for energy development"
Drill more offshore — because offshore drilling is flawless and always safe! Romney proposes starting with the coast off Virginia, FYI Virginia.

Romney Covertly Collecting Voters’ Personal Information To Find Wealthy, Church-Going Donors. If you’ve gone to church or bought anything at a store in the last three months, Mitt Romney might know about it.

Going Undercover at the GOP's Voter Vigilante Project to Disrupt the Nov. ElectionThe Republican True the Vote project is a well-funded scheme with training sessions for activists across the country. Will it work? True the Vote is a voting vigilante group that never should have grown past its Texas cowboy-meets-Tea Party justice roots. Its top leaders have a jaunty, string ‘em up, guilty-until-proven-innocent mindset. They represent the most extreme views on the Right when it comes to voting—that the process is filled with corruption that is bound to be exploited by local political bosses and machines, which, of course, are Democratic. Where liberals see that a third of all eligible voters in America do not vote and want to make the process more accessible, the Right believes to do so would mean the end of America as they know it. They think it’s patriotic to be self-appointed judges, juries and if necessary, citizen police, to stop what they believe is rampant illegal voting
