Psychedelics as Medicine
Bruce Sewick, one of the presenters at this conference
March 25 in Itasca, Illinoissays:
The use of psychedelics can under certain circumstances,
lead to spiritual understanding, primary religious experience
and higher levels of social responsibility. But are they also
valuable in addressing those fundamental problems of
psychological life? Can they offer curative potentials for
those increasingly common problems of our modern society:
debilitating anxiety and stress, Obsessive Compulsive and
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders, and drug addictions, among
others? This presentation will review the history of entheogens,
psychedelics' momentary and ecstatic resurgence during the
counter-culture movement of the 1960's, their criminalization
and brutal suppression in the following decades and their recent,
promising renaissance in clinical studies.
