"If everyone reading this headline donated $5 right now, our fundraiser would be over before lunch". Such was the wording in one of the alternative news websites. In no way am I expecting anyone to send me a contribution unless you feel it is worth the service I provide.
As ever, this issue is full of articles ranging from spirituality to health to politics, music, fringe and beyond. If not enough time to read all of this information, I suggest going down the headlines. I strive to arrange the articles in a way that one story can flow to the next. After a quick read, if there are any particular articles that you wish to read more details about, you can do so when you have more time. Every week I have the intention to limit the number of articles that I post, yet as I do my daily research, I find more and more stories that I feel need to be expressed. Whenever I hear feedback from people in many parts of the world that are appreciative and thankful for the information I am connecting them with, I feel that the extra hours I stay on the Internet a day are worth it.
I add several new art images in the section below the news. The latest art is the one that is on the top part of the long art section on the bottom. Many thanks to my friend George in Belgium for sending the typically amazing art of Salvador Dali from a recent exhibit.

GOOD NEWS!
PAPUA NEW GUINEA:
Where Bees Reform Gangsters
The strawberry guava is a nice tasting fruit rich in nutrition and easy to grow as well as forage. It has been a delight that our whole family has enjoyed enjoying. The state of Hawaii is threatening to use unhealthy ways to eradicate it because it is "invasive". i find no threat to the environment from this wonderful fruit but more harm from invasive humans and other more toxic irritants that have landed on this island including unleashed dogs, sugar, inflated mortgages and non stop patrols from hellicopters wasting gas invading privacy and making awful noise. Xenophobic fears are not only restricted to social groups but also in the domesticating of plants. Mono cropping supports big business while what grows wild and freely is viewed automatically as a threat without considering the benefits as well. The book of Genesis says that God gave us all the plants and fruits as food and medicine. Let's save our strawberry guava from the fires of the inqusition.

QUOTES FOR THE WEEK:
"Education is a better safeguard of liberty than a standing army." - Edward Everett
"If my soldiers were to begin to think, not one of them would remain in the army." - Frederick the Great
"It's not a matter of what is true that counts but a matter of what is perceived to be true." - Henry Kissinger
"The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn." - Alvin Toffler
"Without general elections, without unrestricted freedom of press and assembly, without a free struggle of opinion, life dies out in every public institution, becomes a mere semblance of life, in which only the bureaucracy remains as the active element. Public life gradually falls asleep, a few dozen party leaders of inexhaustible energy and boundless experience direct and rule. Such conditions must inevitably cause a brutalization of public life: attempted assassinations, shootings of hostages, etc." - Rosa Luxemburg
"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect." Mark Twain
"Those who do not move, do not notice their chains." - Rosa Luxemburg
"We Americans claim to be a peace-loving people. We hate bloodshed; we are opposed to violence. Yet we go into spasms of joy over the possibility of projecting dynamite bombs from flying machines upon helpless citizens. We are ready to hang, electrocute, or lynch anyone, who, from economic necessity, will risk his own life in the attempt upon that of some industrial magnate. Yet our hearts swell with pride at the thought that America is becoming the most powerful nation on earth, and that she will eventually plant her iron foot on the necks of all other nations. Such is the logic of patriotism." - Emma Goldman.
"Our job this day is to become part of the answer to the world's immense and protracted suffering rather than continuing our ancient task of being part of the difficulty." - Hugh Prather
"Where suspicion fills the air and holds scholars in line for fear of their jobs, there can be no exercise of the free intellect. Supineness and dogmatism take the place of inquiry. A problem can no longer be pursued to its edges. Fear stalks the classroom. The teacher is no longer a stimulant to adventurous thinking; she becomes instead a pipe line for safe and sound information. A deadening dogma takes the place of free inquiry. Instruction tends to become sterile; pursuit of knowledge is discouraged; discussion often leaves off where it should begin." - -- William O. Douglas -- (1898-1980), US. Supreme Court Justice
"So free we seem, so fettered fast we are." -- Robert Browning - (1812-1889) English poet, playwright
"When the People contend for their Liberty, they seldom get anything by their Victory but new masters." - George Savile - (1633-1695) 1st Marquess of Halifax
"Government, in its last analysis, is organized force." - -- Woodrow Wilson - (1856-1924) 28th US President
"Tyranny is the exercise of some power over a man, which is not warranted by law, or necessary for the public safety. A people can never be deprived of their liberties, while they retain in their own hands, a power sufficient to any other power in the state." - -- Noah Webster - (1758-1843)
"One of the hardest things to teach a child is that the truth is more important than the consequences." - O. A. Battista - [Orlando Aloysius Battista] (1917-1995), Canadian-American chemist and author
"Few men are willing to brave the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential vital quality for those who seek to change a world which yields most painfully to change." - Robert F. Kennedy -
"The release of atom power has changed everything except our way of thinking... the solution to this problem lies in the heart of mankind. If only I had known, I should have become a watchmaker." - Albert Einstein
"Give me the money that has been spent in war and I will clothe every man, woman, and child in an attire of which kings and queens will be proud. I will build a schoolhouse in every valley over the whole earth. I will crown every hillside with a place of worship consecrated to peace." - Charles Sumner
"It'll be a great day when education gets all the money it wants and the Air Force has to hold a bake sale to buy bombers." - Author unknown, quoted in You Said a Mouthful edited by Ronald D. Fuchs
"Nations have recently been led to borrow billions for war; no nation has ever borrowed largely for education. Probably, no nation is rich enough to pay for both war and civilization. We must make our choice; we cannot have both." - Abraham Flexner
"[I]n the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. " - Adolf Hitler , Mein Kampf, vol. I, ch. X
"A half truth is the worst of all lies, because it can be defended in partiality." - Solon - (c.638 BC-558 BC) Athenian statesman, lawmaker
"History is an account mostly false, of events mostly unimportant, which are brought about by rulers, mostly knaves, and soldiers, mostly fools."-- Ambrose Bierce, American writer, 1842-1914
"The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country . . . we're dominated by the relatively small number of persons . . . it is they who pull the wires which control the public mind, who harness old social forces and contrive new ways to bind and guide the world." - Edward Bernays
"When you invite people to think, you are inviting revolution" - Ivana Gabara
"War is when the government tells you who the bad guy is. Revolution is when you decide that for yourself." - Author unknown
