Greetings to all as we enter another cycle of the year. Captivated by expectations, anticipations and fears of future calendar dates as well as trends from the past, we often forget that we are living as well in the present. Historians might point out key events and reality scripts written by "the winners" but also there were many acts of kindness and love that were never considered as significant to mention. BE-HERE-NOW means that we can examine our relationships to the planet, to others and also with ourselves. How is our behavior affecting our environment and what can we do to bring about a change for the better if possible. Actions are indispensable for change to happen. Joost va Steenis in his book "From Chaos to Change" points out that "each year more than 9 million children die before they are five years old". We can be concerned and demonstrate, but we also need to reach the greedy few that are grabbing everything and enslaving humanity in the process. Consumer Rights and Job security seem to be lost ideas. Americans calling themselves the "land of the free" is a bad joke. US citizens can now be thrown in jail without any legal protection as once assumed by the Bill of Rights. Parents are having their children forced to be vaccinated even if they don't want to. GMO's are being allowed to enter the marketplace with no concern for health issues while natural medication is made illegal. One country after another is destroyed by US invasions and weapons of mass destruction with the excuse of "protecting our freedom" which means our country has been acting, in the eyes of many people in the world, as a mercenary thug destroying nations to steal their resources for corporate profit. Whenever we hear that Wall street stocks and profits are on an upswing, news reporters imply that it means good news". Yet what good are corporate profits for the elite when the rest of the world slides economically downhill. This week there is even a story on how in many places in the US, collecting rain water from your house is illegal as the water belongs to the government to do what is deems fit with it. In the movie "Thrive", it is made clear that governments are not representing most people but rather following orders from large corporations and banks. The challenge for the year is how to influence the "boys on the top" to show more compassion and gratitude to humanity and the great spirit that brought us the miracle of life. Living simply so others can simple live is a vital idea to teach them. An understanding of the currency of compassion.
I often hear from friends that my "Links by George" newsletter is getting too lenghty. Every week I have the intention to limit the number of articles that I post, yet as I do my daily research, I find more and more stories that I feel need to be expressed. Whenever I hear feedback from people in many parts of the world that are appreciative and thankful for the information I am connecting them with, I feel that the extra hours I stay on the Internet a day are worth it. I do hope at some point that there won't be as many stories to report and I can finally start to write my autobiography. One suggestion if not enough time to read all the articles is to simply read the headlines and then if there are any specific stories of interest, read them whenever time is possible.
